Drive in Confidence!

I am absolutely positive that every driver remembers how he or she felt when he or she first passed his or her driving test and gained the freedom that came with it! No more relying on your parents, taxis or public transport to get from A to B! No more restrictions as to where you could go or when you could go there! The novelty soon wears off when the expense and the hassle of sorting out your car insurance kicks in. As far as the latter is concerned, if you do not have car insurance then you are not legally allowed to drive your car so you have to sort it out whether you like it or not!

Car insurance does a driver peace of mind though. In fact, there are many benefits that car insurance can bring an individual. For a start, as long as you have insurance you are protected in every eventuality if you are in an accident. It does not matter whether it is your fault or that of another driver, you do not have to find what could be astronomical costs to pay for repairs. This especially applies if the accident was your fault and you would have had to pay for both cars to be fixed!

Car insurance comes in many forms and guises so it is easy to find a policy that will suit you. However, there are many different factors that will determine exactly how much your policy will cost you. If you have never had a policy before then it will be more expensive to insure a car than if you have. You are an unknown quality to insurers so they will not take a risk insuring you for a low price. You are also considered a high risk if you have only just passed your test or have had an accident in the recent past. Similarly, you are low risk if you have several years no claims discount or have been driving for a number of years. Insurers do assess you on the probability you will claim on your insurance so you may pay more than the next person for the same policy.

The cost of your car insurance policy will also depend on the type of car that you have. All cars are placed into one of several bands. A smaller and less powerful car will be placed in a low insurance bracket whereas a highly powerful super car will be placed in a high one.

There are three types of policy for you to choose from, all of which fulfil your basic legal coverage requirements. Third party insurance only covers damage to another individual’s car or property if you are ever in an accident. Third party, fire and theft also protects others’ cars and property as well as you own should it ever be stolen or subject to accidental damage, Comprehensive covers your car and those of others should you have an accident for all eventualities. The level of cover and items that are covered will vary from policy to policy but this will be specified in the small print.

You can purchase various add ons for your policy, such as business use and emergency recovery services, for a little extra cost on top of the premiums. In this way, it is possible to tailor it to your own needs and requirements. However, there are exclusions that you should expect from every policy. If you drive your car under the influence of drugs or alcohol then your policy is automatically invalid, as it is if you drive whilst disqualified. There are others that may vary from policy to policy.

Getting the right car insurance policy for you is an absolute must. The quality of the policy should come before the cost whenever possible. Take the time to shop around and you may be surprised at the deals you can get. As long as you have one though, you can drive until your heart’s content!
